Journal 9: Logos & Color Meaning

The Facebook logo gets smaller and smaller as their notoriety grows. What was once a blue bar surrounding the "facebook" type has now become a single "f" and everyone still knows what it is.

I think Facebook uses the blue because it's calming and it stands out.  It uses monochromatic colors which I believe strengthen any logo. Too many colors and you aren't quite sure what you're looking at anymore.

The Pepsi logo has definitely changed over the years but the one thing that stays the same is the complimentary colors that it uses. Red, White, and Blue is a great color scheme to use in America because it infuses itself into the culture and makes it seem like it is a part of the country, like apple pie and baseball. It may seem daunting for newer companies to use the colors because they almost put you at the forefront of America and there is a lot of responsibility  that goes with that.
Target must have had the most incredible marketing team when they first started. To take something as simple graphic-wise as a target and change an established symbol into their own takes skill. The monochromatic red conveys exactly what Target wants: if you're looking for something, Target is where you need to it. It's so simple and effective.
